The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board engaged Logistics Consultants, Inc. to assist in the operational improvements and effectiveness of its three distribution centers. The activities performed by Logistics Consultants include:
- Operational audits, safety audits and product damage analysis.
- Specification and selection of warehouse management system software.
- Management of the implementation of the warehouse management system.
- Design, specification, selection and implementation of an automated material handling system.
These activities resulted in significant benefits. The implementation of the warehouse management system resulted in signification performance improvements in the three distribution centers. Inventory and shipment accuracy of 99.86% was achieved. Productivity improvements ranged between 15% and 20%.
In the automated facility new material handling methods have nearly eliminated damage. Warehouse space utilization is greatly improved through a new layout configuration and use of high density storage systems.
The useful life of this distribution center was extended by eight years with the installation of a state-of-the-practice material handling system.
